woo hoo!!! i filed my minor for business today… aft several semesters of struggling. no more electives anymore. yup.. i know… nothing to hao lian of because people with minors are everywhere, and there are even people with double/triple degrees… but at least its something i achieved by myself and i had a sense of satisfication… i’m considered rather late as most of my friends had already filed their minor in year 3, but i only get to file them at year 4. but late is better than never… i like to do things at my own pace, rather than competeing with others.

i met my IA supervisor today… its been ard 6 months since i last seen him… at the usual coffeeshop opp. tiong bahru plaza with 2 other colleauges, they drank beer and sadly i can only drink tea… we used to drink beer together… my sup was a great person, whatever u wish to talk abt, he is able to match you… he is not the typical boss who is so formal… i recalled on the 1st day of reporting…
Boss: so u are Tan Kar Wei, the new intern
me: yup
Boss: do u like drinking?? *cant imagine thats the 1st qn he asked*
me: erm… i drink occasionally
Boss: Great!! thats someone we need in this department (he says jokingly)… so do u smoke?
me: er.. nope…
Boss: oh.. its okie… when i interviewed for employees, i will ask the interviewee whether they smoke or drinks… if both yes, i’ll employ them immediately… u only answered correct to one.. thats y u are an intern… he says jokingly… Enjoy your stay here young man..
*and indeed, i enjoyed my attachment :p*

i went to DSI to carry on my FYP *again* today. didn really start anything because i’m still in the training phrase. lots of things i dont know and lots of equipment i’m not familar with. and we’ve been warned that there are only one and only one of each single equipment there and if we happen to spoil any of them, it would be trouble… lol

during my lunch with my fellow FYP mates, we had a funny discussion… we were analysing the grades allocated for FYP.. in fact the weightage for FYP was not so high as compared to before… given 10 AUs for 2 semesters, break it down, it would be 5 AUs each semesters… roughly equivalent to a 4AU module. its not as if in the past where year 4 results contributes 40% of the honours grade, thus 10 AU would make a big difference in year 4…. come to think of it, mathematically, its reasonably true. another guy jokingly said… u guys stop complaining… my CCA burns me 2 hrs 3 times a week… Its an overload of 6 AU… i rebutted… thats nothing!! u ask huat how many AUs does his gf contributes… i would say at least 20AUs, if not 30AUs!! all of us laughed… and furthermore, its a module which u will never get to pass… 😡 hahaha… i know this paragraph is rather blur to most… only NTU undergrads understands… :p

i had embarked on my FYP with Data Storage Institute (DSI) situated in NUS and from next week onwards, i will be working almost everyday in DSI. I had my orientation in DSI yesterday and visited the “cleanroom” for the first time. it is called a cleanroom it is said to be only 10,000 particles per metre cube, depending on the classification of the cleanroom. before entering the cleanroom, we had to put on the jump suit and walk through the air-blowing chamber to ensure we are clean. in the cleanroom, i get to see the sputtering machine which i will be using to prepare my samples… and rather amazing when i get my handson to sputter the recording materials onto the polycarbonate substrate. back in school i can only read from the notes and imagine about sputtering is… but here i can actually see how it works… and some interesting facts, the colours on on my Oakley eye jacket are actually done through sputtering, same to transition lenses as well… :p

one setback of the cleanroom is that we are not allow to consume any food or water in the cleanroom. and thus, working there for a whole day can be tiring as we are suffocated by the mask we are wearing and dehydrated due to lack of water. its quite troublesome even when we want to go to the washroom as we have to exit the cleanroom and remove the jumpsuit… i’m starting to reconsider my career about entering the microelectronics sector…

i still prefer the traditional way of engineering like what i did in my attachment in the chemical plant…. though i had to climb high and low and endure under the hot sun, but i feel more natural this way… maybe my mind is simple, and i prefer using simple NDT testing equipment to those complex equipments with computers beside. or maybe i like to hangout with non-graduates because i get to learn a different kind of experience from them? i dont know…

Since DSI is location in NUS, i have the chance to try out the food and look ard for pretty girls in NUS… it just feels so different… NUS seems so much bigger than NTU… 😡

1 min of wonders… never-say-die spirit of the turkey national team send the croatians back home in Vienna… This somehow gets reminds me of the 1999 European Champions League When Man-U plays against Bayern Munich in the finals… In this morning’s match, during the 119th min of extra time, I. Klasnic scored a goal for Croatia… in 120th min, S. Sentürk scored the equaliser for Turkey bring the match into penalty shootout. Turkey won 3-1 over Croatia bring them into the semi-finals to face Germany.

Two of my favourite teams are playing later on tonight (or tomorrow morning): Holland and Russia… all along, i’m a supporter of Holland and i hope holland to be the champions of Euro 2008. However, i liked Russia in this Euro because of their coach Hiddink Guus… this man do wonders… he made South Korea into the semi-finals during world cup 2002 and made Australia into the second round during world cup 2006… in Euro 2008, Russia came ahead of England in the qualifying round and now in the quarterfinals… I hope it will be a wonderful match to watch with lots of goal scoring!! 😡

my hand surgury was over as of 0855h this morning… no more bionic hand. its kind of feeling uneasy when the surgeon worked on my hand while i’m still awake. i dont get to see how the surgury was done as it was shielded by lots and lots of green cloth. it somehow makes me wonder why nurses wear green aprons in operating theatre.. and the cloths are green as well… of all the colours, but why green?

the surgury was a success *and i’m still alive*, but it wasnt a good experience for me. my hand was anestized, i felt painless when my hand is being cut… however my bone isnt anestized or rather it is not possible to anestize the bone. thus, while removing the screws from my finger, its a nightmare… i felt the pain in my bone… its quite painful infact, however i did not wan to embaraess myself by screaming out which will then distract the surgeon and nurses. i’m allowed to bring home the 6 screws and the metal plates home. afterall those few tiny pieces of metal costs me $240 (surgury charges is not included yet).yes, those are the metal stuffs in my hand for the past 9 months. i always thought they are in micron size, but i’m wrong. the screws are rather thick and they seems rather big to me. no wonder i have to be fully anestized when they implant these metal into my bone during the previous surgury. else, i cannot imagine how painful would it be. and yes, my hand was bandaged once again and i was given 9 days of MC. its still painless now as i still have the anesthetics in my hand. wait till it wear off, i’ll start to feel the pain of cutting flesh… damn… supposed to remove the stitches on 25th june. i can start to imagine that i’m going to have a smelly, ichy and dirty right hand because i am not supposed to have it in contact with water in these 9 days… sigh…

on my way back home, one though suddenly came across my mind. if i were to born 50 years ago, i would have died at a very young age. i’m fucking damn injury prone… i had my 1st surgury at 6 years old because i had a very big cyst at my buttock. at 9 years old, another big cyst in my left eye and i’ll have to go under knife again. at 23, a broken finger and prolapsed disc. *shakes head* should i be glad that i’m born in the age of high technology where the world is so damn competitive and i dont even know whether i can afford to give the same standard of life as what i am receiving from my parents right now to my kids in future?

living in the early days, life is much simpler and the cost of living is low. but given my poor health condition, i might have died before i can see my children. then again although the advance technology in the present makes me stay alive for longer period, but i’ll have to struggle to get on with life… thats the compromise we had to give… to gain something, we gotta lose another thing. thats equivalent trade…

fathers’ day yesterday. i refuse to work on that day. reason: because i wan to treat my dad a dinner at sakura. sounds i’m a good boy *so what are the girls waiting for?*.. nah i’m not a filial son. this is only the 2nd time i’m treating my dad over these 24 years… lol anyway, we enjoyed the dinner and i just love to see my family members being happy :p

i watched kung fu panda yesterday… reminds me of stanley sir.. haha… the movie is cute, funny, interesting and most importantly its meaningful. the movie carries a moral behind it..
“there is no accident, no coincidence, and there is no secret recipe in life… how good you are, it all depends on yourself…”
i would give it a 4/5… and i would recommend all my friends to watch this funny movie.

after watching the movie, i meet up with shiying and yibin. they wanted to catch up with me and have a post birthday gathering for me. thanks guys, i appreciate it! :p i guess i ate too much carbohydrates that i’m still feeling bloated after 4 long hours!!! damn…

i really wish to stay up to watch euro 2008 tonight… but in another 7 more hours, i will be in the operating room having my hand under knife. thus, i’ll have to rest early tonight *well, its not so early already and i intend to have a game of dota before i sleep :x*… i’m rather scared as i will be awake while the surgeon is operating my hand. this is the first time i’m experiencing a local anaesthesia during the surgury. omg… *shakes head* i hope it all goes well and the surgeon would not leave any equipment in my hand… 😡 wish me all the best! :p

12 june – my 24th birthday
firstly i would like to thank the following (hopefully i dont miss anyone… if i had, juz giv me a call and fu*k me upside down):
yiyu, david, shiying, qijia, mary, serene, lifen, stella, felice, kai yao, kelvin, charlotte, peishan and meiting for remembering my birthday… thank you very much!!! i really appreciate it..

~i’m all out of love~
~i’m so lost without you…~ As expected, i celebrated my birthday at wala wala pub listening to the unXpected band *again*. yes… another night with 3 emo guys… yiyu is super emo that he dedicated my favourite song “all out of love – Air Supply”… this is one of the few times i got super high on alcohol. i had 2 pint of carlsberg, 1 x flamming waterfall and half pint of “frustration”. The waiter is preparing the flamming waterfall… cant wait to drink the waterfall…
what the…. flamming water without any flame… i was so disappointed… actually there was some mild flame seen, but the photo didn catch it. after 2 pints of carlsberg and a flamming water, the kick starts to set in… on top of that, yiyu orders a frustration for me which i only took half a pint… i started to feel damn high… but it was damn shiok…
Flamming Waterfall + Frustration = washing all your frustrations away
and it really works quite well.. lol too high to think of any frustrating stuffs… and again, i KOed again on the bed (without bathing)…

due to some reasons, i usually woke up damn early when i drink too much the previous day… and as usual, i only had like 5 hours of sleep and head off to work half-dead… :p

11 june – birthday eve

Great!!! 2 good news for the day!!
1) i finished the last module for my business (hopefully i dont flunk it so that i can file a minor at the end of july)
2) Holland beat Italy 3-0!! i’m so happy!!

In fact, i would say the business law exam is doable. i’m glad that i attended all the tutorials because 60% of the exam questions were discussed in the tutorial and since its opened book exam, i just merely copied what is discussed into the script. This also mean that no more A for me.. because everyone will be doing the same as well and in NTU there is this stupid thing of “normal distribution”, some people called it the “bell shaped curve” to moderate our results. so far, my record for special semester is not really good. hopefully i dont get a B- or lower again which reduces my CAP score. I really hope having my exam on this birthday eve gives me some luck.. :p

i was super shag aft the exam that i KOed right after i reach home. i met up wif yiyu and david for buffet and we head off to wala wala pub.
3 emo guys + beer = pubbing

Thats me and yiyu showing that stunned face with that holland card..

10 june – eve of my business law examination
as usual, the motivation to study for the exam is not there.
Reasons:
1) special semester, everyone is having holiday mood
2) its an open book exam
3) reading statues, case laws are soooo fucking boring…
4) Euro 2008 fever, didn sleep well the night before due to watching soccer
5) my favourite team “holland” is playing tonight
instead of studying, i went to anchorpoint Xing Wang Hong Kong Cafe instead. *shakes head* spent around 2-3 hrs of loithering around before i’m able to get the mood to hit my notes. after i reached home, finally i get my butt on the chair and read the boring law textbook. due to my slipped disc, i could not sit for too long… after 2 hours, my back starts aching and its affects my concentration (i’m not really concentrating in the first place).
and friends, if u have isnomia, do read the law textbook or read the singapore statutes at http://statutes.agc.gov.sg/; its a good catalyst to help u fall asleep. and indeed, it works. i fell asleep wif my face on the books… and was sleeping so sound until that i missed the soccer match of Holland vs the world champion Italy…
